“Cuando a uno le pico
el bichito, le pico el bichito. Por ejemplo, en mi caso, varios me preguntan si
yo tenía vocación de ser maestro. No, me vino después. Después de ocho años de
trabajo más o menos… empecé a descubrir tal vez otras cosas que no había visto
antes. A querer lo que hacía, a desear mejorarlo, a desear mejorarme.”
First of all, I have to say that there are a lot of
phrases that called my attention but I chose this one because it reflects my
personal experience. When Paco Cabrera says: “Cuando a uno le pico el bichito,
le pico el bichito.”, it is impossible not to think about how I decided to
become a teacher. I
agree with him when he says: “Por ejemplo, en mi caso, varios me preguntan si
yo tenía vocación de ser maestro. No, me vino después.” because
the same happened to me. I wanted to become an English translator when I
finished secondary school but I could not go to a different place to study so I
decided to begin the “Licenciatura” here in Santa Rosa. Many people (family and
friends) told me that I had to start the “Profesorado” but I was not sure.
After some years teaching at home and preparing students to sit for final
exams, I decided to try and I began the “Profesorado”. My desire of being a
teacher is related with: “[…] empecé a descubrir tal vez otras cosas que no
había visto antes.”. Today I can say that it was the best decision that I could
had taken because I like and I enjoy teaching. I also concur with Paco when he
says: “A querer lo que hacía, [...]” because I believe that it is not possible
to be a teacher if you do not love what you do. It is crucial to bear in mind
the idea of “[…] a desear mejorarlo, a desear mejorarme.” because always a
mutual learning exists between us and our students.
